KIIT stands for Kalinga Institute of Information and Technology, an NGO dedicated to providing free education and skill development to underprivileged children and those in need, helping them secure a brighter future.

KIIT was founded by Hemaraj Panigrahi after recognizing the educational gap faced by children from impoverished backgrounds. Through his deep involvement in rural communities, Hemaraj realized the need for accessible education for children and youth who could not afford formal schooling. Driven by a passion for social change, he established KIIT to provide these individuals with opportunities to learn and grow.

  • PWD stands for Persons with Disabilities.
  • DEI stands for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Diversity refers to the visible and non-visible ways in which individuals differ, encompassing various characteristics that make each person unique.

Equity ensures that processes and systems are just and impartial, providing fair opportunities for all.

Inclusion involves creating an environment where everyone feels welcomed and valued, ensuring a positive experience for all, including those from marginalized communities.

KIIT has been supporting Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) since its inception in 2019. The NGO’s initiatives, like EmpowerAbility, focus on providing education and skill training to PWDs, ensuring they have the tools needed to become self-reliant

KIIT started by helping a small group of children in local villages, but today, its programs have benefited more than 5,000 individuals, providing them with education, skills, and hope for a better future.

KIIT’s Women Empowerment Program aims to uplift women from rural areas by providing them with vocational training, education, and opportunities for sustainable livelihoods. The program focuses on building confidence, financial independence, and social inclusion for women who wish to create a better life for themselves and their families.

There are several reasons why education for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives should be prioritized in India:

  • Education is a fundamental right that helps individuals, especially PWDs, become self-reliant and contributes to societal progress.
  • DEI practices ensure a more inclusive society, promoting equal opportunities and reducing discrimination.
  • By empowering PWDs and marginalized communities through education, India can build a more compassionate and resilient workforce.

KIIT offers sensitization workshops and training programs for schools, businesses, and other organizations interested in implementing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) practices. These workshops help employees and students become more aware of DEI values, creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for all.
